I am proud to be able to offer for sale the pipe collection of Frank Shields, a wonderful customer of mine.

Frank was an avid collector of pipes and especially Dunhills, as you will see in the 60+ pipes listed below. He was a long time customer of the Wilke pipe shop where he purchased his favorite tobacco, Wilke's #191.. He is one of the few customers I actually met in the shop on several occasions and his patronage continued after the New York store closed. Frank called frequently to stock up, especially if he was off on one of his fishing trips He had a pleasant deep voice and he always started the conversation with, "Hi Carole, it's Frank." But I always knew who it was before he ever said 'it's Frank" !

The following is an excerpt from an article that pretty well sums up Frank Shields: "Frank had the warmth and humor of the poor, and the confidence and grace of the noble. He had more friends than anyone I've ever met, and I don't think I ever heard Frank say a truly mean thing about anyone."

So, if karma lingers in a person's favorite possessions, maybe by smoking one of his pipes, your life will be enhanced, like the lives of the many people Frank encountered in his life.

Carole, I am happy to see Frank Shields collection of pipes are in appreciative hands! I knew Frank very well, and spent a lot of time with him during his last few years. I actually have several pipes Frank gave me over the years, including a Dunhill Billiard. My favorite is a stunning hand made Greek pipe, with the inlay of a horse race in silver. I cherish these pipes, and agree with your assessment of good Karma from smoking them. Frank was a true gentleman, and always fun to be around. I must say, all of us who knew him, miss him terribly. I am happy that his collection is in good hands. I know he always loved your tobacco blend, and don't remember seeing him ever smoke anything else. Thank you for bringing back good memories of a dear friend.

A note about the pipes:

I have not described each pipe as is my usual manner, because I believe Dunhills speak for themselves.

The descriptions include the year (when legible), group size, finish, model number also when legible and whether or not it has a 14k Gold (GB) or Sterling Silver (SB) band (an AD after GB denotes the band was applied at the time it was made).

Every Dunhill in the collection has a new authentic Dunhill stem. And many of the stems on the other pipes of the collection have been replaced, using logos when available. Frank really enjoyed his pipes and it is apparent he was never without a pipe in his mouth. The pipes are in good to very good condition. They have all been refurbished by me.
